VOLUNTEER WITH US

The cafe has a longstanding history of volunteering and we welcome the involvement of our community in the organising and decision-making of our project. If you’re interested in getting involved, please get in touch.

Youth work placements

The cafe offers a supportive and inclusive space where people who face various barriers to work can grow and develop at their own pace. We provide volunteering opportunities for young Lambeth-based residents aged between 16-30, funded by Walcot Foundation.

Our aim is to deliver employment-focussed training to inspire young people to believe in their own abilities. We want to help build our volunteers’ confidence to secure paid work, start their own business and/or return to learning. Our existing partners include Roots and Shoots, Baytree Centre and Nido Volans.

Young people work weekly in our commercial kitchen and cafe, with wraparound support and mentoring available. Hospitality training includes food preparation, cooking, baking, making barista coffee, cleaning, customer service, social media and event management. We also support our participants to develop soft skills such as teamwork, communication, English as a second language, punctuality, reliability and interpersonal skills.

Testimonial from a work placement participant:

“At the beginning it was a bit awkward. I am not a very social character; I tend to keep to myself. But the more I worked here, the more I grew more confident and assertive, and felt comfortable enough to be myself.”
